Ship Channel Bridge Rehabilitation Project Update

25/09/2025

Toronto (September 25, 2025) – PortsToronto, in partnership with the City of Toronto, is continuing to rehabilitate the Ship Channel Bridge, a vital piece of infrastructure that supports Toronto’s supply chain. Current work includes structural steel repairs, cleaning and coating of the structure. The planned work impacting the northbound lane and sidewalk is now complete and the lane is open to vehicle traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists. The southbound lane and sidewalk will remain closed to traffic through the remainder of the year as work on this stage continues. Please be aware and follow all signage posted on site.

The 2025/2026 winter shutdown of the bridge is scheduled to take place between January 5th and April 5th. During this period, scaffolding will be up, and bridge lifts will not be possible. This timeline has been reviewed and approved by Transport Canada, and further updates on this work will continue to be provided through these channels as we approach the start date.
