Geoffrey Wilson to Retire as CEO of PortsToronto

Toronto (February 24, 2022) – After 12 successful years as President and CEO of PortsToronto, Geoffrey Wilson has elected to retire effective June 30, 2022. This follows a long and distinguished international career in the shipping, aviation, and infrastructure industries.

Mr. Wilson has provided important leadership to the organization while at the helm. During this time there has been significant growth in all of the operations in which PortsToronto is engaged, and he has ensured that we have been both profitable on an annual basis, and well positioned to assess and take advantage of new opportunities as they have arisen.

Notably these include: The building of the pedestrian tunnel to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport; the sale of the heritage Toronto Port Authority headquarters; the establishment of a film production campus on lands within the port; the creation of an Environmental Sustainability platform and investments in ESG; and, compound annual growth in airport demand and popularity, including the receipt of multiple international recognitions and ‘best in class’ awards. These accomplishments will serve as a foundation for PortsToronto for years to come.

In the broader city building community, Mr. Wilson has also played an active and leading role. He recently served as vice chair of the board of the Council of Great Lakes Region, and continues to serve on the advisory board of the Toronto Global Economic Forum of the Americas.

“Geoffrey Wilson has provided exceptional leadership and has been an instrumental part of PortsToronto’s growth and success during his time as President and CEO,” said Amanda Walton, Chair of the Board, PortsToronto. “We will miss his sage advice around the board table, and we wish him well in his retirement and look forward to his future accomplishments.”

The Board will begin a search process for a new CEO immediately. The Board and Senior Management Team are committed to ensuring that PortsToronto continues to operate its businesses and serve our stakeholders, community and partners with both professionalism and excellence.
