PortsToronto to Participate in Global “Sound the Horns” Campaign in Honour of International Day of the Seafarer

Toronto (June 22, 2021) – On Friday, June 25 at 12:00 p.m., PortsToronto will participate in the International Chamber of Shipping's global Sound the Horns campaign in honour of International Day of the Seafarer. Ships in the Toronto Harbour will sound their horns for three, five-second blasts as part of a worldwide effort to recognize the critical role marine workers have played during the pandemic and to remind the world of the urgent need to vaccinate seafarers.

Throughout the pandemic, seafarers have delivered essential PPE and medicines to protect Canadians, and transported the country’s trade to and from domestic and international markets to keep the economy moving. In their honour, PortsToronto’s Iron Guppy and the Billy Bishop Airport Marilyn Bell I ferry will join the City of Toronto ferries Ongiara, Thomas Rennie and William Inglis, as well as vessels from the Toronto Police Marine Unit, Toronto Fire Marine Unit, Galcon Marine and Toronto Drydock in sounding their horns in a heartfelt salute.
