Connecting to Love

An airport is a gateway to destinations near and far, but for Casey Yeung and Howard Yeung, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is what kept them connected, even when their lives were far apart.

Casey and Howard met at the house party of friends in 2014, though Howard jokes that Casey actually crashed the party.  A year into their relationship, when Howard decided he wanted to pursue post-graduate studies in Chicago while Casey remained in Toronto, they needed a way to stay connected despite the distance.

For the next year Casey and Howard took turns flying back and forth between Toronto and Chicago once a month, travelling through Billy Bishop Airport. With the airport located just minutes from the downtown, being together despite the distance, was easy.

“I could get off work at 5, be on a flight by 7 and be in Chicago before 9,” said Casey. “When you only have a weekend to spend together, you want to be there as soon as possible and not waste any time.”

Back together in the same city and newly engaged, Casey and Howard will be saying “I do” this April just outside of Toronto. During their wedding celebrations, Billy Bishop Airport will continue to play a role in keeping them connected, from getting the bridal party to Montreal for the bachelorette weekend to connecting flights for friends flying in from overseas.

We were moved by Casey and Howard’s story of how the airport kept them connected and asked them to participate in a special Valentine’s version of the “It’s My Airport” campaign. The couple agreed and we’re pleased to be able to share their story with you through their gorgeous photos at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

It’s their airport.
