Last night at the Airports Council International (ACI-NA) 2016 Excellence in Airport Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service Awards Gala in Salt Lake City, Utah, it was announced that PortsToronto, the owner and operator of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), won the award for Best Marketing Campaign in North America in the Small Airports category for the multimedia It's My Airport campaign starring actual airport passengers.

PortsToronto, owners and operators of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), today confirmed that more than 250,000 passengers arrived and departed through the airport in June 2016, marking the busiest month in the airport’s history. Both Porter Airlines and Air Canada contributed to the high passenger numbers, which were a combination of leisure and business travellers.

PortsToronto Harbour Master Angus Armstrong “crowns” Federal Rideau Captain Sharma Vinod Kumar with a 200-year-old silk and beaver top hat at the 155th annual Beaver Hat Ceremony at Redpath Refinery. The annual ceremony dates back to the mid-1800s and celebrates the arrival of the Port of Toronto’s first ocean-going vessel of the season. This year, the Federal Rideau won the race to be the first ship to Port, making the 17-day journey from Guatemala’s Puerto Quetzal to deliver 23,000 metric tonnes of sugar to Redpath Sugar’s refinery.

Skytrax Ranks Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport One of North America’s Best

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was named one of North America’s best airports by Skytrax World Airport Awards, the premier international airport awards voted on by more than 13 million passengers worldwide. Billy Bishop Airport was ranked the ninth best regional airport on the continent, making it one of only two regional airports in Canada to be recognized in the category. Halifax Stanfield Airport was ranked fourth, with such U.S. airports as Kentucky, Cincinnati and Seattle-Tacoma rounding out the list. The awards were presented yesterday evening in Cologne, Germany, at the 2016 Passenger Terminal Expo.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was among the Canadian transportation facilities to be named in an expanded U.S. Customs Preclearance program. The announcement, which also included Quebec City’s Jean Lesage Airport, came as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s first official visit to the U.S. to attend meetings with President Barack Obama and is part of an effort to make travel between the two countries more convenient for travellers and further enhance trade relations.
