Toronto (June 30, 2017) – PortsToronto, owners and operators of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), today announced that more than 30,000 passengers will travel through Billy Bishop Airport leading up to the Canada Day long weekend, with Friday marking the airport’s single busiest day in history with more than 13,000 passengers expected. As Canada 150 celebrations ramp up across the country, the majority of Friday’s flights are domestic with Billy Bishop Airport connecting 8,300 travellers to key Canadian destinations. Both Porter Airlines and Air Canada are key contributors to the high passenger numbers that will include many leisure travellers departing from and arriving in Toronto during the three-day long weekend.

“As we prepare for our busiest day in history on Friday and welcome more than 30,000 people travelling through Billy Bishop Airport between Thursday and Canada Day on Saturday, we are thrilled to welcome travellers as they begin their holiday weekend,” said Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and PortsToronto. “Over the course of the three days, we will welcome more passengers than we did during the entire year in 2005. Whether celebrating Canada Day in Toronto or taking off to Canada 150 celebrations in Ottawa or one of the many other cities commemorating Canada’s big day, more and more people are choosing our airport for a convenient, customer-focussed travel experience from curb to gate and beyond.”

Due to the high passenger volume throughout the weekend, travellers are encouraged to plan accordingly and arrive at the airport early in order to ensure a smooth trip.
