Billy Bishop Airport Voted One of North America’s Most Scenic Airport Landings

Toronto (September 28, 2020) —Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has once again been recognized by Private Fly’s coveted Most Scenic Airport Approaches list, ranking fifth in North America for its breathtaking views of Toronto’s iconic skyline. This recognition marks the sixth consecutive year that Billy Bishop Airport has been featured on the prestigious list — having been counted among the top ten Most Scenic Airport Approaches in the world for the past five consecutive years.

In a spectacular show of solidarity with the travel and aviation industries which have been seriously impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of travellers worldwide voted for their favourite airport approach from the air at a time when many were grounded due to international travel restrictions.

Billy Bishop Airport’s unique location on the Toronto Islands offers a dramatic viewpoint of Toronto’s skyline on approach, a thrill for the approximately 2.8 million who travel through the airport each year. One of only two Canadian airports to be recognized in this year’s global poll, Billy Bishop Airport was named alongside airports located in some of the North America’s most stunning locales, including Honolulu (Daniel K. Inouye) International Airport in Hawaii and Florida’s Miami International Airport.

“As we eagerly await the return of commercial airline service at Billy Bishop Airport, temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are particularly proud to be recognized for the incredible views available to our passengers on approach, intrinsic to the passenger experience at Billy Bishop Airport that many know, love and miss,” said Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President of PortsToronto, which owns and operates Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. “The unmatched city-view approach to Billy Bishop Airport’s Toronto Island location, boutique atmosphere and convenient proximity to Toronto’s downtown core are just a few of the key benefits of travelling with us that travellers can expect to enjoy when the time is right to travel again.”

Billy Bishop Airport has won a series of passenger-driven awards, including being named one of the top airports in North America in both the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards and Skytrax World Airport Awards. Billy Bishop Airport has also been ranked as the fourth Best International Airport by Condé Nast Traveler.

For 2020, Private Fly expanded its awards to include more airports by creating geographic divisions in which airports competed. While in past years Billy Bishop Airport has competed for inclusion on a global list, in 2020 the airport was considered within the context of the North American category.
