Toronto (September 21, 2016) – PortsToronto, owners and operators of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), today announced that more than 782,000 passengers arrived and departed through the airport this summer. In August, 268,584 people travelled through Billy Bishop Airport, marking not only the airport’s busiest month to date but its busiest summer in history. Both Porter Airlines and Air Canada contributed to the high passenger numbers, which were a combination of leisure and business travellers.
“With two award-winning commercial carriers with direct service to more than 20 destinations in Canada and the U.S., and connections to 80 international destinations via our airlines’ networks, Billy Bishop Airport is an important gateway for business and leisure travellers alike,” said Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and PortsToronto. “Whether for business or leisure, more and more people are choosing to embark upon their journey quickly, comfortably and conveniently at Billy Bishop Airport and we are thrilled that the summer of 2016 marked the busiest in our airport’s history with more than 782,000 passengers travelling through our doors in June, July and August.”
Billy Bishop Airport experienced record-breaking monthly passenger levels recording 255,906 passengers in June, 257,969 passengers in July and 268,584 passengers in August. The airport’s successful summer is consistent with the steady growth experienced at the airport since 2006 under its managed growth strategy to ensure balance along the waterfront.
