Toronto (May 27, 2015) – On Thursday, May 28, the M/V Jadran – or “Captain John’s” as it has come to be known – will be removed from Toronto’s Harbour by Marine Recycling Corporation (MRC), the current owner of the ship, and towed to Port Colborne, Ontario, to be recycled.
In order to ensure the ship’s removal is completed in the safest manner possible and in compliance with Transport Canada regulations, the removal date which has been set by MRC, is dependent on weather, particularly wind conditions, and is subject to change without notice.
WHAT: The M/V Jadranwill be removed from Toronto’s Harbour by MRC and towed to its facility in Port Colborne (located on Lake Erie) to be recycled. MRC will release the ship from its current position along the dockwall at the foot of Yonge Street and turn it 90° upon entering the Harbour, prior to towing it out through the Eastern Gap – a process that will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes to safely complete.

NOTE: The ship’s removal time and date are dependent on weather conditions and MRC will decide if and when it is safe to proceed.
WHERE: 1 Queens Quay West, at the foot of Yonge Street
(Entry within the fenced area to the east of the ship will be permitted for those with proper media accreditation. Please confirm attendance in advance to expedite the process.)
PARKING: Paid spots for media will be reserved on the south end of the parking lot at the foot of Yonge Street, directly to the east of the ship’s slip.
NOTE: Safety is the top priority for all involved in the ship’s removal from the Harbour. Toronto Police Services will be on site, both on land and water, to maintain public safety during the ship’s removal. Both the media and public are reminded to please stay clear of the bike lanes along the waterfront.
