Former PortsToronto Board Chair, Robert Poirier, Appointed to Order of Ontario

Toronto (November 9, 2022) – PortsToronto is proud to announce that former Board Chair, Robert Poirier, has been appointed to the Order of Ontario for 2021, and will be honoured at a ceremony to be held on November 21, 2022. The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Chancellor of the Order of Ontario, announced the 24 new appointments to the Order of Ontario for 2021 earlier this month. The Order of Ontario is the province's highest civilian honour for individuals. The Order of Ontario recognizes exceptional leaders whose impact and lasting legacy have played an important role in building a stronger province, country and world.
 
Robert Poirier, was one of the longest serving Directors for PortsToronto. He was first appointed as a Director of the Board in September 2009, and was Chair of the Board from August 2015 until April 2021. Mr. Poirier helped transform Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport into one of the most successful, community-oriented, and environmentally sustainable urban airports in North America. Billy Bishop Airport completed numerous large-scale infrastructure developments under Mr. Poirier’s leadership to support the airport’s goal of cleaner, greener and quieter operations including the Pedestrian Tunnel (2015), the Ground Run-up Enclosure (2017), the airfield modernization (2018) and the conversion of the Marilyn Bell ferry to all-electric power (2021) the first of its kind in Canada.
 
Mr. Poirier currently serves as a Board Director at Metrolinx, serving as Chair of the Real Estate Committee, overseeing transit-oriented development and community benefits, and as Chair overseeing Ontario’s transition to a circular economy.
