Free Three-day Movie Festival August 16-18

 

 

Toronto (July 23, 2012) – The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) is bringing back its highly anticipated free movie festival, Sail-In Cinema, to the city’s waterfront. For three nights in August, Canada’s Sugar Beach will be transformed into an outdoor theatre where movie fans can watch nautical-themed movies on a two-sided screen anchored to a barge on Lake Ontario.

 

Sail-In Cinema will take place August 16 to 18 and Torontonians will be able to enjoy water-themed movies from land or boat, with movies beginning at dusk (at around 8:45 p.m.) on each of the three nights. The two-sided screen is 40 x 20 foot in size, and sits on a 700 lbs. floating barge that is 60 x 150 foot in size.

 

“We had tremendous success launching Sail-In Cinema last year as part of our centennial celebrations,” says Geoffrey Wilson, TPA President and CEO. “As the steward of Toronto’s harbour, we’re proud to be part of the community and pleased to be helping Torontonians rediscover the region’s waterfront with this novel, family-friendly experience.”

 

The inaugural Sail-In Cinema was held in 2011 to mark the Toronto Port Authority’s centennial year and welcomed more than 2,000 people and 70 boats to the water’s edge for the unique summer movie experience.

 

The public is invited to choose the three movies that will show at this year’s event by visiting www.sailincinema.com and voting for their favorite water-themed movie. Once the movies have been chosen, free tickets will be available from the Sail-In Cinema website.

 

The TPA is presenting Sail-In Cinema 2012 with the support of Porter Airlines, Pier 27 Residences on the Lake, North American Logistics Services Inc., The Waterfront BIA, and media partners the Toronto Star and Q107.
