Toronto (August 21, 2015) –PortsToronto’s 5th annual Sail-In Cinema made waves last night, drawing more than 1,800 movie-goers on land and in boats to Sugar Beach (located at 25 Dockside Drive) to watch Ghostbusters on the festival’s opening night. Even larger audiences are expected to attend the free three-day waterfront event for the Friday, August 21, screening of The Goonies and Saturday, August 22, screening of E.T. – the Extra-Terrestrial, which will screen under the open sky on a giant two-sided screen erected on a custom-built barge anchored in Toronto’s Harbour.

“For the last five years, PortsToronto’s Sail-In Cinema has invited Toronto residents and visitors alike to come down to the waterfront and enjoy a unique and free celebration of film, family and fun,” said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “We are thrilled that so many people came out for opening night and look forward to offering attendees two more evenings of non-stop activities and entertainment. From the Toronto Fire Boat water display to photo booths to chalk art depicting scenes from the festival’s “Flashback to the ‘80s”-themed movies to free popcorn, cookies, frozen fruit bars, and so much more, there will be lots of fun to be had prior to the start of each night’s feature film—this year’s event will be the best yet.”

For the remaining two nights of the festival, free landside tickets can still be reserved at www.sailincinema.com. While Sail-In Cinema is a free event, there is limited seating on the landside and entry is subject to the availability of space. Those who register online are also eligible to enter a contest to win a pair of tickets aboard Porter Airlines to any destination the airline serves. The first 500 attendees on site each night will receive special seating and have the opportunity to win prizes from Sail-In Cinema partners. Boat mooring will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

PortsToronto is delighted to have Toyota Canada back as Sail-In Cinema's Pre-Show Partner, offering film-goers many fun activities, including a photo booth and henna tattoos. Other partners this year include Redpath Sugar, Toronto Star, CP24, North American Logistics Services Inc., Porter Airlines and The Waterfront BIA, who will be providing treats and the chance to win great prizes throughout the festival.
