Toronto (November 27, 2019) – Last night at the annual Boating Ontario Conference President’s Awards of Excellence, the Outer Harbour Marina, owned and operated by PortsToronto, was announced as the recipient of the Robert Eaton Environmental Award for its innovative Seabins Pilot Project – the first commercial installation of its kind in Canada.

Mike Dwyer, Manager of the Outer Harbour Marina, accepts the Robert Eaton Environmental Award at the Boating Ontario Awards of Excellence on November 26.

The Robert Eaton Environmental Award celebrates individuals and businesses who are dedicated to environmental responsibility and stewardship while contributing their time and efforts to advance the Boating Ontario Clean Marine program. For eight consecutive years, the Outer Harbour Marina has been proud to achieve the Clean Marine Program’s 5 Green Anchor Gold designation, which recognizes marinas that follow environmental best practices to protect and maintain a healthy marine environment.

The success of the Seabin Pilot Project at the Outer Harbour Marina was an important first step in enabling the marina and PortsToronto to consider the use of Seabins in Toronto’s harbour and to collaborate with the University of Toronto Trash Team on research and waste literacy initiatives to further reduce plastics and microplastics in our waterways. Recently, PortsToronto launched the second phase of this program at Pier 6 on Toronto’s waterfront.
