Toronto (July 12, 2017) – The votes have been tallied and today PortsToronto announced the three winning movies that will screen at the seventh-annual Sail-in Cinema™ movie festival being held August 17-19 at Sugar Beach. A record 5,500 votes were cast by the public to select the three movies from a shortlist of 20 diverse and popular films.

A tale as old as time, an archaeologist with a knack for adventure and a young misfit will come to the silver screen at this year’s Sail-in Cinema with the winning movies and screening dates as follows:
  • Edward Scissorhands on Thursday, August 17
  • Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on Friday, August 18
  • Beauty and the Beast (2017) on Saturday, August 19
“This year we broke all records as 5,500 votes were cast to determine this year’s winning line-up,” said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “While voters faced a difficult decision with so many great movies to choose from, a clear favourite emerged as the new live-action Beauty and the Beast movie took top spot and set a new record for most votes cast for a single movie. This year’s winning lineup – Beauty and the Beast (2017), Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Edward Scissorhands – is sure to offer something for everyone, featuring both time-honoured classics and new takes on old favourites. We are counting down the days to PortsToronto’s annual celebration of summer on the waterfront that brings the community together for three unforgettable nights of movies under the stars.”

PortsToronto is delighted to have new and returning partners this year including Toyota, Redpath Sugar, CTV, the Toronto Star, Fresh Air Cinema, Porter Airlines, Starbucks and The Waterfront BIA.

About Sail-in Cinema
Sail-In Cinema™, presented by PortsToronto, is the world’s first two-sided floating movie experience of its kind. The free film festival transforms Toronto’s Sugar Beach into an outdoor movie theatre over three nights. Movies are chosen by public vote and shown under the open skies on a four-storey, two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour, allowing moviegoers to enjoy the films by land or by boat. The inaugural Sail-In Cinema™ was held in 2011 to mark PortsToronto’s centennial year. The annual event attracts more than 10,000 people on land and 100 boats over the three-day period and is now a permanent fixture on Toronto’s summer calendar.
