Toronto (June 14, 2017) – Last night at the Excellence Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. PortsToronto was announced as the recipient of three 2017 International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Gold Quill Awards. PortsToronto won awards in the following categories:
  • Marketing, Advertising and Brand Communication: It’s My Airport
  • Media Relations: Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel Media Campaign
  • Special Events: PortsToronto’s Sail-in Cinema™ 2016
“From media relations for the Billy Bishop Airport Pedestrian Tunnel Opening to highlighting the airport as key piece of infrastructure through the It’s My Airport campaign, as well as engaging with the community at Sail-In Cinema, these projects represent the culmination of years of hard work by the versatile communications team at PortsToronto,” said Deborah Wilson, Vice-President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “It is a true honour to receive these awards from the International Association of Business Communicators and to be recognized for excellence in marketing and public relations in each of these categories on behalf of both the communications team as well as all of those involved in our organization’s success story.”

The three awards represent a diverse collection of projects undertaken by PortsToronto communications team. The It’s My Airport marketing campaign launched in April 2016 to spotlight the benefits of Billy Bishop Airport as a world class travel hub, and starred real passengers sharing why they love the airport. The opening of the Billy Bishop Airport Pedestrian Tunnel featured a highly engaged multi-year media campaign, which resulted in more than 40 media outlets attending the tunnel’s ribbon-cutting event and resulted in 500 individual media articles, radio clips and television segments – which equated to 7 billion media impressions. Finally, in 2016, Sail-In Cinema celebrated its sixth year showcasing films on the world’s largest two-sided floating movie screen that can be viewed by boat and on land. As Toronto’s only outdoor floating film event, Sail-In Cinema has grown to become a “not-to-be-missed” community event, attracting more than 11,000 people on land and 100 boats over the three-day period.
