PortsToronto President and CEO, RJ Steenstra, Awarded Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal

Toronto (December 21, 2022) – PortsToronto is proud to announce that its President and Chief Executive Officer, RJ Steenstra, has been awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal – an honour awarded to residents of Alberta who have made a significant contribution to Canada, Alberta, and their communities. The Alberta Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors nominated Mr. Steenstra for this award in recognition of his dedication to promoting a safe, reliable and efficient transportation network and his outstanding contribution to the transportation industry.
 
Previously President and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority in Alberta, Mr. Steenstra joined PortsToronto in September 2022. He is an accomplished executive leader recognized for driving businesses forward in challenging economic conditions by making smart and dynamic decisions, and leveraging revenue diversification and lean principles to propel organizational refocus and change. His passion for airports is evident and he is recognized for developing innovative and fiscally-grounded solutions – without losing sight of the passenger and employee experience.
 
In addition to his role as President and CEO of PortsToronto, Mr. Steenstra currently serves as, Chair of the Policy Board for the Canadian Airports Council and Director on the Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) Executive Committee. He also serves as a Director for the global board of Airports Council International (ACI World), which represents the collective interests of airports around the world to promote excellence in the aviation industry.

About the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal
The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal recognizes residents of Alberta who have made a significant contribution to Canada, Alberta, their communities, or fellow citizens. A commemorative medal created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, it will be awarded to 7,000 Albertans throughout 2022 in recognition of significant contributions to the province.
