Toronto (November 4, 2016) – Last night at the Airports Council International (ACI-NA) 2016 Excellence in Airport Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service Awards Gala in Salt Lake City, Utah, it was announced that PortsToronto, the owner and operator of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), won the award for Best Marketing Campaign in North America in the Small Airports category for the multimedia It's My Airport campaign starring actual airport passengers.

The ACI-NA Excellence in Airport Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service Awards recognizes the quality of work, talent, and creativity within the marketing and communications field of the airport industry and honours airport professionals that demonstrate expertise in various categories. The awards were established in 1990 and are considered one of North America’s most prestigious public relations honours.

The It’s My Airport campaign was launched in April 2016 to spotlight the benefits of Billy Bishop Airport and generate greater awareness of the airport as a convenient travel hub and important piece of infrastructure for the City of Toronto. The marketing campaign highlighted the many traveller benefits and features that the airport offers by having actual passengers share why they love the airport. With a tagline of “It’s My Airport,” the campaign depicted real-life passengers recounting their travel experiences and providing the reasons why they choose to fly through Billy Bishop Airport. The passengers who participated were identified and approached through social media and were not paid or scripted.

“Who better to highlight the airport’s convenience, amenities and benefits than actual passengers sharing their stories about why they love Billy Bishop Airport?” said Deborah Wilson, Vice-President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “Receiving this award from Airports Council International is truly an honour and represents years of hard work and dedication to our excellence in customer service and public relations strategy, both by the communications team as well as all of those involved in the airport’s success story.”
