Public to Choose What Plays at Sail-In Cinema™

Toronto (July 18, 2013)
– Toronto Port Authority’s (TPA) popular outdoor movie festival, Sail-In Cinema™, is back at the city’s waterfront this summer. From August 15 to 17 Sugar Beach will be transformed into Toronto’s largest outdoor theatre where families and film fans alike can watch movies on a two-sided screen anchored to a barge on Lake Ontario.

The theme for Sail-In Cinema™ 2013 is ‘Heroes of the Silver Screen’ and the movies will be announced in late July.

“We have shown water-themed movies for the last two years,” says Geoffrey Wilson, TPA President and CEO. “We wanted to switch things up this year and celebrate some of the silver screen’s greatest and best loved heroes.”

The public is invited to choose the three movies that will show at this year’s festival by visiting www.sailincinema.com or TPA’s Facebook page to vote for their favourite hero movie.

The public will have seven classic hero movies to choose from:
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
  • Top Gun (1986)
  • The Princess Bride (1987)
  • Ghostbusters (1984)
  • Superman (1978)
  • Goldfinger (1964)
  • Back to the Future (1985)
Voting will be open from July 18 to July 25. During the voting period, members of the public stand a chance to win a pair of tickets to anywhere Porter Airlines flies. Further details can be found on the festival website. Once the movies have been chosen, free landside tickets will be available from the Sail-In Cinema™ website; boaters will not require tickets. Sail-In Cinema™ is the only major movie event in Toronto where boaters can anchor their boats and watch movies in Lake Ontario.

TPA is presenting Sail-In Cinema™ 2013 with the support of Toyota Canada Inc., Porter Airlines, North American Logistics Services Inc., The Waterfront BIA, Popchips, Keurig® and media partners the Toronto Star, Metro, CP24 and 99.9 Virgin Radio.
