RFP for Noise Barrier Construction Issued

Toronto, (July 28, 2011) – The Toronto Port Authority today released a Request for Construction Services on MERX, Canada’s leading electronic-tendering service, to design and build an acoustic noise barrier to mitigate airport ground noise at the Billy Bishop Airport.

This barrier is part of the TPA’s overall commitment to work with the local community. The proposed barrier was one of 16 recommendations the TPA adopted last year in response to an independent study on methods to minimize noise to waterfront communities.

The draft Environmental Assessment (EA) screening report has reported that there would be no significant adverse effects on the environment as a result of the project. The final EA report on the noise barriers is expected shortly. The Port Authority will consider the results of the EA in the coming weeks. Should the results be positive the TPA will proceed with selecting one of the firms bidding on the construction.
