Toronto (March 8, 2012) – The Toronto Port Authority today announced the success of its first charitable sponsorship of 2012, the Reel Artists Film Festival. Now in its ninth year, the festival organised by the Canadian Art Foundation attracted more than 2,000 people to TIFF Bell Lightbox from February 22 to 26, 2012.
The Festival is one of several cultural events in Toronto that the Port Authority will support in 2012.
“This is an exciting partnership that celebrates the talents and achievements of this era’s foremost visual artists,” said TPA Board Chairman Mark McQueen. “It flowed naturally from the TPA’s inaugural sponsorship of the Canadian Art Foundation and Harbourfront Toronto in 2011.”
“We were delighted to welcome Toronto Port Authority as a sponsor of the Festival. TPA’s support enables us to continue to grow the festival and contributes to our overall success,” said Ann Webb, Executive Director of the Canadian Art Foundation.
The Reel Artists Film Festival featured more than 20 documentaries on the world’s top contemporary artists and saw several world, Canadian and Toronto premieres.
In addition to hosting the second Sail-In Cinema this summer at Canada’s Sugar Beach, the Toronto Port Authority will be participating in Doors Open in late May; providing financial support to the Harbourfront Community Centre’s Room 13 Program; and sponsoring Harbourfront Centre’s 2012 summer programming following the Toronto Port Authority’s role as Harbourfront’s Lead Summer Partner in 2011.
