Toronto Port Authority Wins International Advertising Award
Radio spot receives Award of Excellence

Alexandria, Va. -- July 31, 2006

The American Association of Port Authorities today announced that the Toronto Port Authority has won its “Award of Excellence” for the TPA’s 30 second radio spot entitled, “Day at the Beach.”

The TPA also won an “Award of Merit” for its companion spot, “Heartbeat Away” and for its two-part newspaper campaign entitled, “Why?…Because.” This year's competition attracted 184 entries from 40 ports in North, South, and Central America, and the Caribbean.

“This was the first time the Toronto Port Authority used radio and print advertising to tell citizens of the Greater Toronto Area about our important role in harbour cleanup and our operation of the Toronto City Centre Airport with its 4000 Medevac flights a year,” said Lisa Raitt, President and CEO of the Toronto Port Authority. “Having the ads and the overall campaign receive the recognition of our peers is especially gratifying.”

The TPA print campaign appeared in the Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun and nine community newspapers. Radio was purchased at 200 GRPs a week for five weeks on a variety of Toronto stations.
