Overnight Geotechnical Investigation from April 7 to April 16

Toronto (April 7, 2015) – Please be advised that a crew will be conducting a geotechnical investigation at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport from April 7 to April 16. The work will be completed during overnight hours between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

The geotechnical investigation will require drilling to obtain sub-grade soil samples for the Preliminary Runway Design as part of the studies being undertaken by PortsToronto. The purpose of the Preliminary Runway Design is to assess and evaluate existing geotechnical conditions and pavements associated with Porter Airlines’ proposed runway extension and the potential operation of jet aircraft at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The analysis and investigation will also factor into the Environmental Assessment (EA) which is also being conducted to determine the potential environmental, social and economic effects of the proposal.

The work being undertaken has been coordinated with Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and the Harbour Master’s office to ensure all safety precautions are taken and that there is no disruption to air operations. Minimal noise is expected.
