Every year, PortsToronto clears thousands of metric tonnes of silt and debris from Toronto’s Harbour. To report debris or pollution in the Harbour, call the Harbour Hotline at 416-462-3937.

Each year, PortsToronto removes approximately 33,000 tonnes of dredged material from the mouth of the Don River, with the goal of preventing future flooding.

East Gap Pier

East Gap Pier

The East Gap Pier was built in the 1890s by Public Works (Federal Government) and extends north from the east edge of Ward’s Island, along the East Gap. The pier has fallen into disrepair and PortsToronto has committed to removing the rubble associated with the dilapidated structure in an effort to keep the harbour safe and navigable.

Dock Wall Enhancement Along Western Gap

In June 2018, PortsToronto announced plans to repair the south dock wall in the Western Gap. The work will be completed in phases with the first phase dedicated to restoring the structural integrity of the wall.
