Simulation will involve sirens and emergency personnel onsite that may be visible to the public. Related activities will test emergency response procedures at the airport.

Beginning April 26 for a period of three nights, PortsToronto will be completing work to groove the runway pavement at the intersection of Runway 08-26 and Taxiway Echo at Billy Bishop Airport.
Beginning Monday, March 28, 2022, PortsToronto in partnership with the City of Toronto, will commence a major rehabilitation program to restore and modernize the ageing Ship Channel Lift Bridge, a vital piece of infrastructure supporting Toronto’s supply chain. On Thursday, July 22, PortsToronto will transport the Marilyn Bell I ferry from Billy Bishop Airport to the Toronto DryDock facility, where it will begin the final phase of its conversion to electric power.
On Friday, June 25 at 12:00 p.m., PortsToronto will participate in the International Chamber of Shipping's global Sound the Horns campaign in honour of International Day of the Seafarer.

The completion of structural repairs to the Leslie Street Spit floating pedestrian bridge will now be completed on May 14, 2021, with the bridge set to be re-installed in the days immediately following. The delay from the initial late-April timeframe is as a result of staff shortages in late February due to isolation and preventative protocols required due to potential COVID-19 infections within the team responsible for the repairs. Once the bridge is back in place, pedestrian access to the endikement roadway leading to the east headlands of the Leslie Street Spit will be reinstated.
Unauthorized concrete, brick and rubble cycling structures will be removed between March 29 and April 6 in an effort to ensure a safe environment for all park users.

Delays are expected during the inspection period and bridge users are encouraged to plan alternate routes to reach areas south of the Ship Channel
As part of a PortsToronto project to revitalize Eireann Quay and improve vehicle and pedestrian circulation in the vicinity of Billy Bishop Airport, final asphalt resurfacing of the Eireann Quay roadway will take place overnight, between 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27 and 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28. PortsToronto will be conducting this work overnight in order to maximize efficiency by leveraging the significant reduction of vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the area. Throughout this final phase of the project, efforts will be made to mitigate resulting noise. Vehicle access to the Billy Bishop Airport ferry terminal will be maintained.
East pedestrian sidewalk will remain under construction until approximately September 18.
In order to accommodate necessary structural steel and sidewalk repairs, the Ship Channel Bridge will be restricted to a single lane of vehicle traffic starting Tuesday, July 21 for an expected duration of three weeks. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There will be no evening or weekend work.
The meeting will be held on July 16, 2020, and will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The third phase of a PortsToronto project to improve vehicle and pedestrian circulation on Eireann Quay is scheduled to commence in the coming days. This phase will focus on a full reconstruction of the Eireann Quay roadway and a widening of its east sidewalk. Work, which will last approximately four weeks, will take place weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Throughout this final phase of the project, vehicle traffic will proceed through the airport finger lot, and pedestrians will be redirected to the west sidewalk.
Please be advised that the Toronto Police Services Emergency Task Force (ETF) will hold four full-scale training exercises at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport over the course of four consecutive weeks.

This is the third edition of the Billy Bishop Airport Sustainability Report which documents measures taken to implement policies, programs and initiatives to make the airport cleaner, greener and quieter, in an effort to set a new standard for how a modern airport operates in an urban environment.

PortsToronto is pleased to announce that necessary bridge-deck grating required for the Ship Channel Bridge has been completed earlier than anticipated. As a result, the Ship Channel Bridge will re-open to vehicle and marine traffic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
In order to accommodate necessary bridge-deck grating required to the Ship Channel Bridge, the bridge will be closed to both vehicle and marine traffic over the course of two weekends in March – March 7 to 8 and March 14 to 15, 2020.
From approximately 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on February 14, 18 and 26, 2020, the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Fire Department will conduct an ice and cold water rescue training session on the Toronto Islands.
As part of its commitment to managing noise generated by operations related to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, PortsToronto has installed a new Noise Monitoring Terminal (NMT) at 480 Queens Quay in the Kings Landing condominium building that was activated on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
Pursuant to Section 51 of the Canada Marine Act, notice is given that the Port of Toronto will:
- Increase its fees by four per cent;
- Increase its cargo dues by seven per cent;
- Increase the Long Term Berthage rate for vessels under 100m to $0.50 per metre per 24 hours; and,
- Increase the Long Term Berthage rate for vessels over 100m to $0.70 per metre per 24 hours.
As part of PortsToronto’s annual preparation for winter, crews will be removing the red, green and white “keep out” buoys from Toronto’s Harbour starting on Friday, December 20, at 11:00 p.m. until approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 21. To ensure the removal is undertaken quickly and safely, this work will be completed overnight.
In order to accommodate necessary grating replacement work required to the Ship Channel Bridge, the bridge will be restricted to a single lane of vehicle traffic Monday, December 16 through to
Wednesday, December 18. Traffic/re-routing signage and lighting will be in place to guide vehicles. Periodic bridge lifts may also take place during this time.
As part of PortsToronto’s annual preparation for winter, crews will be removing the red, green and white “keep out” buoys from Toronto’s Harbour starting on Friday, December 13, at 11:00 p.m. until approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14. To ensure the removal is undertaken quickly and safely, this work will be completed overnight.
Starting December 5, 2019, NAV CANADA, in collaboration with PortsToronto, will implement enhanced arrival procedures for aircraft operators at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. New arrival procedures will improve airborne traffic flow while reducing flying time, fuel burn, greenhouse gas emissions and community noise exposure.

Scheduled maintenance work on the airfield at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has begun as part of
the Billy Bishop Airfield Rehabilitation Program. The remaining project work, which includes milling and paving a few small areas of the airfield, will take place during night-time hours when the airport is closed to commercial aircraft operations and is scheduled to be completed mid-November.
On Friday, October 18, 2019, between 9:05 a.m. and 10:25 a.m., NAV CANADA flight inspections will take place at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). NAV CANADA undertakes routine flight inspections two to three times per year at more than 130 airports in Canada, including Billy Bishop Airport.
The Cherry Street bridge over the Keating channel will be reinstated for public access, including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians just in time for Labour Day weekend. Members of the public wishing to use the bridge to access/return from the port lands can do so starting at approximately 7 p.m. tonight.
This afternoon, the Cherry Street bridge over the Keating Channel was safely lowered as part of a joint operation led by PortsToronto and the City of Toronto. Work will now begin to lock the bridge into the horizontal position for structural inspections to ensure that it is safe for passage prior to re-instating access to vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
The process to safely lower the Cherry Street bridge over the Keating channel will begin this afternoon, Wednesday, August 28th. The operation will involve a crane and winch system and will be subject to favourable weather conditions. Once the bridge has been safely lowered, the bridge will be locked into position and will undergo structural inspections to ensure that it is safe for passage, prior to re-instating access to vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Please be advised that the 70th annual Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) will take place from Saturday, August 31 to Monday, September 2 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with a practice day held on Friday, August 30 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Cherry Street bridge over the Keating Channel remains locked in a lifted position due to mechanical failure. The City of Toronto and PortsToronto have retained the services of a professional engineering firm with specialized bridge expertise to begin work on lowering the bridge.
The Cherry Street Bridge is currently out of service and locked in a lifted position due to a mechanical/electrical failure experienced on August 1, 2019. Traffic is being re-routed along Lakeshore Boulevard East to the Don Roadway, which connects with Cherry Street via Villiers Street.
On June 12 following the release of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport 2018 Draft Master Plan, PortsToronto, the airport’s owner and operator, kicked-off a 30-day public comment period for stakeholders and members of the public to review and provide comment and feedback that will be contemplated and considered in finalizing the plan.
NAV CANADA Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ-100) Will Now Perform Flight Checks at Billy Bishop Airport
NAV CANADA undertakes routine flight inspections two to three times per year at more than 130 airports in Canada, including Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. In March 2019, NAV CANADA retired the only turboprop aircraft from its Flight Inspection Aircraft (FIA) fleet and will now use only the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ-100) for all of its flight checks, including those undertaken at Billy Bishop Airport. The first flight check with the CRJ-100 at Billy Bishop Airport is scheduled for June 6, 2019, subject to favourable weather conditions.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport) will hold the third and final public meeting for its 2018 Master Plan on June 12, 2019, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building, in Room 701A. The meeting will include presentations, along with a facilitated question and answer session, which will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The intention of the meeting is to present the draft of the Master Plan and kick-off a 30-day comment period where stakeholders and members of the public can provide comment that will be contemplated and considered in finalizing the draft. The finalized Master Plan will be released following the comment period and is expected in late summer 2019.
With repairs to the Ship Channel Bridge lifting system complete, full commercial marine use of the bridge has been restored for the 2019 shipping season.

As part of the City of Toronto-led Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Plan, PortsToronto will begin work to consolidate certain traffic operations at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. In addition to improving vehicle traffic flow on Eireann Quay, this enabling investment will reduce the airport's overall 'city-side' operational footprint, freeing up land for the construction of new and improved streetscaping and public spaces by the City of Toronto.
The Ongiara, the ferry operated by the City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation department, which runs between Queen’s Quay and the Toronto Islands, will be out of service as part of a planned dry dock effective October 22 until early December 2018.
PortsToronto will begin removing the dilapidated pier in the East Gap harbour entrance from September 10 to November 16, 2018. The construction schedule will be Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Although PortsToronto does not own the East Gap Pier, which was built by Public Works (federal government) in the 1890s, it is undertaking the project to ensure a safe and navigable harbour. The project has been approved by Transport Canada (Navigation Protection Act and Port Authorities Operations Regulations), the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (Endangered Species Act), and reviewed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Fisheries Act and Species at Risk Act).

The report, as with all previously commissioned reports dating back to 2008, confirms that the airport continues to operate within its strict Noise Exposure Forecast (“NEF”) as required under the Tripartite Agreement.

As part of PortsToronto’s commitment to managing noise generated by operations related to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), the two Noise Monitoring Terminals (NMTs), located on the Toronto Police Marine Unit building and the airport’s on-island Fire Hall, will be upgraded this year. The terminals are the foundation of the airport’s noise monitoring system and provide ongoing noise-level data to the airport’s Noise Management Office. This data is then used in long-term noise mitigation planning and in responding to noise complaints from the surrounding community.
Beginning today and for the next several days, Environics Research will conduct a telephone survey of Toronto residents to gather views and perspectives on Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport).
Scheduled critical repairs on the Ship Channel Bridge have been completed, allowing two-way traffic to resume later today, May 19, 2016. PortsToronto is pleased that the bridge will be fully functional for the long weekend and leading into the busy summer season.

Ship Channel Bridge Expected to Open to Two-way Traffic Late May
New buses, new airport location, free WiFi and GPS tracking will make taking the shuttle even easier and more convenient for passengers.
From 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29, and Tuesday, March 1, the Ship Channel Bridge, which runs along Cherry Street in the Toronto Port Lands, will be closed overnight to vehicle traffic in order to conduct important work needed to reinforce one of the bridge’s critical structural components. The closures are part of the broader repairs being done to the bridge deck to re-open the bridge to two-way traffic, anticipated to occur by early April.

To ensure the removal is undertaken quickly and safely, this work will be completed overnight.
Please be advised that there will be multiple road closures in proximity to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 18. Closures will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and impact usual airport access routes, including Bathurst Street, Fort York Boulevard and Lakeshore Boulevard. PortsToronto today confirmed that it has accepted the City of Toronto’s proposal with regard to Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILTs) and has paid in full all PILTs associated with the organization and its properties. The settlement addresses all PILTs matters dating back to 1999.

The Noise Exposure Contour reports for Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, dating back to 2008, are now available online. Please be advised that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s mainland turning circle will be closed on May 23 and May 26 to 29 for final resurfacing in preparation for the completion of the airport’s new pedestrian tunnel opening in late spring 2015. During this time, vehicles dropping-off passengers will be redirected to flow off Eireann Quay, around the taxi corral and into a temporary drop-off zone, located where the shuttle bus currently stops. The shuttle bus route will be temporarily moved to follow the curb lane of Eireann Quay.
Please be advised that a film production crew will be occupying the parking lot at 30 Bay Street from May 4 to May 8, with filming taking place on May 6 and May 7. Parking for Harbour Sixty Steakhouse patrons will be available through the restaurant’s valet service.
PortsToronto today confirmed that it will fund an independent Third-Party Peer Review of the Environmental Assessment (EA) currently underway to determine the environmental, social and economic impacts of the Porter Airlines’ proposal to fly jet aircraft at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and the related lengthening of the runway to accommodate such aircraft. This is the result of an effort that has been underway by PortsToronto since December 2014 to review options that address requests for participant/intervenor funding and respond to comments from the public regarding federal and provincial oversight of the EA.
