Spotlight: Black Aviation Professionals Network

In February 2023,  Billy Bishop Airport is partnering with the Black Aviation Professionals Network (BAPN) – a non-profit organization that aims to encourage and promote Black talent in the field of aviation and aerospace within Canada.

Then
Allan Bundy broke the colour barrier in 1920 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia when he became the first Canadian born black pilot in the RCAF. Allan Selwyn Bundy, pilot, was the first Black Canadian combat pilot. He flew with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) during the Second World War and earned the title of Flying Officer. Officer Bundy flew more than 40 combat missions in Europe as a member of the 404 Squadron.

StarGaze Gala 

Each year, BAPN hosts the StarGaze Gala to raise funds, honour members and allies of their community through awards, and celebrate Black culture.

ImBAPA

I’m a Black Aviation Professional + Ally is a program designed to provide resources and financial assistance to members of the Black community who are interested in or pursuing a career in aviation. Its talent profile platform provides members the tools they need for success.

Inspire Higher

BAPN’s Inspire Higher Program focuses on engaging Black youth through various initiatives to promote the Aviation industry, introduce the limitless possibilities, and encourage Black youth to consider aviation as a career.
