PortsToronto’s Eighth-Annual Sail-In Cinema™ Draws Thousands to Toronto’s Waterfront Over Two Nights

Toronto (August 13, 2018) – PortsToronto’s eighth annual Sail-in Cinema drew 8,000 movie fans and over 50 boats to Sugar Beach for the two-night free film festival. From August 10 to August 11, audiences enjoyed Labyrinth and Space Jam on a state-of-the-art three-storey, double-sided floating screen anchored to a barge in Lake Ontario.

“Eight years ago, PortsToronto brought Sail-In Cinema to the water’s edge as a means of encouraging people to visit Toronto’s harbour,” said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, PortsToronto. “Over the years the event has evolved into a not-to-be-missed experience that brings people from across the city down to the waterfront for a weekend of film, fun, family and community. PortsToronto sponsors almost every event and attraction on the waterfront and we are especially proud of the success of this annual event which every year gets bigger and better.

PortsToronto was pleased to have new and returning sponsors this year, including Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Menkes, Redpath Sugar, CTV, Porter Airlines, Waterfront BIA and North American Logistics Inc., which offered film-goers fun pre-show activities, including henna tattoos, face-painting and snacks.

About Sail-in Cinema (www.sailincinema.com)
Sail-In Cinema™, presented by PortsToronto, is the world's first two-sided floating movie experience of its kind. The free film festival transforms Toronto's Sugar Beach into an outdoor movie theatre over three nights. Movies are chosen by public vote and shown under the open skies on a large, digital, two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour, allowing moviegoers to enjoy the films by land or by boat. The inaugural Sail-In Cinema™ was held in 2011 to mark PortsToronto's centennial year. The annual event attracts more than 10,000 people on land and 100 boats over the three-day period and is now a permanent fixture on Toronto's summer calendar.
