North America’s First Floating Movie Event Returns

The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) is bringing back its highly anticipated free movie festival, Sail-In Cinema, to the city’s waterfront. For three nights in August, Canada’s Sugar Beach will be transformed into an outdoor theatre where movie fans can watch nautical-themed movies on a two-sided screen anchored to a barge on Lake Ontario.

Toronto Port Authority Releases 2011 Financials: Record Year for Profitability

The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) released its 2011 financials today, reporting net income of $13.9 million, a 90% increase over fiscal 2010. This sets a new record for profitability since TPA was created in 1999, and represents the fourth consecutive year of profitable growth. The strong financial results are driven not only from the continued success of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, but also from the other operations of the Port Authority.

Toronto Port Authority Moves Forward on Bay Street Development

The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) announced today that it has selected a consortium led by Oxford Properties Group, the real estate investment arm of the OMERS Worldwide Group of Companies, as its preferred proponent for the redevelopment of its property at Bay and Harbour Streets. Known as the 30 Bay/60 Harbour Project, the 1.8-acre site is anchored by the landmark Toronto Harbor Commission building at 60 Harbour Street, which will be maintained and preserved. The otherwise vacant site is currently used for surface parking.

Construction Work on Eireann Quay

The Toronto Port Authority Board and the City of Toronto reached an agreement last summer, passed by City Council on July 12, 2011, that will see the City of Toronto put a new water main and replacement sewage mains in the pedestrian tunnel that the TPA is building to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. This City Council-approved agreement specifically included provisions to improve traffic management on Eireann Quay and a three year lease of the Canada Malting site to the TPA for such purposes.
