Lake Ontario and the Toronto Harbour are currently experiencing high water levels, which may continue until mid-May or early June. These elevated water levels may lead to breakwaters being submerged in and around the Port of Toronto.

The report was commissioned and released by Transport Canada last week and completed by an external consultant team at the request of the City of Toronto. The report, as with all previously commissioned reports dating back to 2008, confirms that the airport continues to operate within its strict Noise Exposure Forecast (“NEF”) as required under the Tripartite Agreement.

As part of PortsToronto’s commitment to managing noise generated by operations related to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), the two Noise Monitoring Terminals (NMTs), located on the Toronto Police Marine Unit building and the airport’s on-island Fire Hall, will be upgraded this year. The terminals are the foundation of the airport’s noise monitoring system and provide ongoing noise-level data to the airport’s Noise Management Office. This data is then used in long-term noise mitigation planning and in responding to noise complaints from the surrounding community.
Beginning today and for the next several days, Environics Research will conduct a telephone survey of Toronto residents to gather views and perspectives on Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport).
Scheduled critical repairs on the Ship Channel Bridge have been completed, allowing two-way traffic to resume later today, May 19, 2016. PortsToronto is pleased that the bridge will be fully functional for the long weekend and leading into the busy summer season.

Ship Channel Bridge Expected to Open to Two-way Traffic Late May
New buses, new airport location, free WiFi and GPS tracking will make taking the shuttle even easier and more convenient for passengers.
From 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29, and Tuesday, March 1, the Ship Channel Bridge, which runs along Cherry Street in the Toronto Port Lands, will be closed overnight to vehicle traffic in order to conduct important work needed to reinforce one of the bridge’s critical structural components. The closures are part of the broader repairs being done to the bridge deck to re-open the bridge to two-way traffic, anticipated to occur by early April.

As part of PortsToronto’s annual preparation for winter, crews will be removing the red, green and white “keep out” buoys from Toronto’s Harbour starting on Wednesday, December 2, at 11:00 p.m. until approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 3. To ensure the removal is undertaken quickly and safely, this work will be completed overnight.
Please be advised that there will be multiple road closures in proximity to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 18. Closures will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and impact usual airport access routes, including Bathurst Street, Fort York Boulevard and Lakeshore Boulevard. PortsToronto today confirmed that it has accepted the City of Toronto’s proposal with regard to Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILTs) and has paid in full all PILTs associated with the organization and its properties. The settlement addresses all PILTs matters dating back to 1999.

The Noise Exposure Contour reports for Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, dating back to 2008, are now available online. Please be advised that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s David Hornell ferry will be in service while the Marilyn Bell I ferry is undergoing routine inspection and certification, as required by Transport Canada. The Marilyn Bell I will resume service on June 15.
Please be advised that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s mainland turning circle will be closed on May 23 and May 26 to 29 for final resurfacing in preparation for the completion of the airport’s new pedestrian tunnel opening in late spring 2015. During this time, vehicles dropping-off passengers will be redirected to flow off Eireann Quay, around the taxi corral and into a temporary drop-off zone, located where the shuttle bus currently stops. The shuttle bus route will be temporarily moved to follow the curb lane of Eireann Quay.
Please be advised that a film production crew will be occupying the parking lot at 30 Bay Street from May 4 to May 8, with filming taking place on May 6 and May 7. Parking for Harbour Sixty Steakhouse patrons will be available through the restaurant’s valet service.
PortsToronto today confirmed that it will fund an independent Third-Party Peer Review of the Environmental Assessment (EA) currently underway to determine the environmental, social and economic impacts of the Porter Airlines’ proposal to fly jet aircraft at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and the related lengthening of the runway to accommodate such aircraft. This is the result of an effort that has been underway by PortsToronto since December 2014 to review options that address requests for participant/intervenor funding and respond to comments from the public regarding federal and provincial oversight of the EA.
Please be advised that the Departures Level Corridor of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Terminal, which connects to the Airport Ferry Terminal, will be closed from Saturday, April 25, at 5:30 a.m. until Monday, April 27, at 5:30 a.m. During this time, passengers will be re-routed through the Arrivals Level (lower level).
